I want to break down the steps that can help you change your energy and ultimately change your life. My goal is to provide you with precise tools to return to a state of consciousness when you forget to remember that awareness is not just limited to meditation but also in your waking life.
The concepts underlying my work are meant to be put into practice. Meditating for an hour in the morning is great, but who are you being for the rest of the day? To practice mindfulness while wide awake, you must train your mind to catch yourself when you forget and learn how to bring yourself back to the present moment.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the fourth step is the end. These steps should be repeated by beginners and advanced students alike. I practice them myself many times a day.
Step One
The first step is essential because we can't change anything unless we are aware of who we are. We must shine a light on our automatic thoughts, behaviors, and feelings and become so conscious that nothing slips by our awareness unnoticed. Without judgment, make a game out of observing everything about yourself. When, where, and how did you lose your awareness during your day? What triggered your old self to resurface?
Imagine you're watching an actor playing a role. Observe every gesture, expression, and action. If you can remain in the moment, stay out of judgment, and watch yourself in real-time, you can collect all the data you need to recalibrate your new state of being.
Step Two
Once you've regained your awareness and identified the aspects of yourself that no longer serve you, stop being that person. Unplug from the old subconscious programs running your life and pause long enough to slow yourself down into the present moment. Slowing down sends a signal to your autonomic nervous system that it is safe to relax and create.
Pausing and stopping is crucial to moving from the known to the unknown. It takes enormous energy and awareness to get to the present moment, but it's necessary to change from a state of discomfort into liberation and wholeness.
Step Three
The third step is to change your energy and state of being. Once you start taking active steps that align with your intention, you should see changes in your body and life. As you move closer to your future, let the energy you've tapped into generate the emotions associated with the new you.
Step Four
Now that you've reset yourself and recalibrated your energy and state of being, it's time to return to your life with full consciousness. These steps are circular, not linear. With practice, you will eventually return to a conscious state more quickly.
The ultimate goal is to break through and liberate your body. For those waiting patiently, take heart - the breakthrough can't happen without the body first resisting.
